The Open is officially over for 2024- and boy, did we have a great time! Thank you to everyone who made it so successful. We're already excited to see what this next year has to bring!

The "standard is the standard". We all joke about it. We all think it’s funny… and it is… because it’s become kind of our saying around here. We hold the standard for a multitude of reasons that we won’t dig into right now- but this year, when we decided to ask people to judge and hold a judges meeting for the Open- there was one person who stood out and really stepped up to take the job extra seriously. She wasn’t afraid to call you out ….and if you had her as your judge, you knew that. She even called Jared out a time or two. Megan was that judge. She abundantly held the standard. Megan won the "hold the standard" award during this years Open.

The past three Friday nights have brought lots of firsts: heavier dumbbells used, double under PR’s, FIRST jumping chest to bar, pull ups, bar muscle ups, etc… All of these firsts are really admirable and definitely worth celebrating!!! However, these celebrated moments are just a tiny part of this place. At the foundational level, and at its core, Righteous exists so that when you walk out of these four walls- you can live life to its fullest. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Friday we highlighted one athlete in particular. Almost a year ago, this young lady contacted us and wanted help with nutrition. (With no intention of a gym membership!) The next thing I knew, I was on Zoom with a total stranger, while she broke down and cried about not only her future, but her little girls future as well. Fast forward to last week. We all stood and watched this athlete tackle the rower, deadlifts, and the jump rope- all on a sprained foot. I personally stood to the side and watched in complete AWE of the journey she has been on. I have complete confidence to say that this young lady has quite possibly added decades onto her life..without even realizing it. AND, not only that, she has created a generational shift in lifestyle for her young daughter. Hanna is a complete inspiration- and the reason why we do what we do here at Righteous. Hanna won the Heart Award during this years Open.

“Hi I’m Sydney, I am a physical therapist as well as a competitive athlete and coach, from CrossFit Invictus in Boston, MA. Before I worked with Nina, I was constantly doubting myself. “I can’t lift that weight.” “I’m probably going to fail this.” “I’m not good at that movement.” Nina saw it too, especially when she was my CrossFit coach. She saw me fail the lift before I even attempted it. This came out in my professional life too. Most know it as imposter syndrome. “This patient should have someone better than me to treat them.” Then even when Nina wasn’t my coach, she would call me out from a distance when watching my instagram stories. “PLEASE put some weight on the bar”, she would say. She knew I could lift heavier, but I didn’t believe it. I was honored when Nina asked if I wanted to work with her on my mindset and confidence. I always had a tendency to hold myself back mentally, and I wanted to learn how to get stronger between my ears to improve my performance as an athlete, as a coach, and as a PT. Miss this post before Thanksgiving? Here it is again, because it's not too late! This is the time of year that most people's goals take a back seat … Here is a mini checklist to help you stay on track so you don’t feel like you need to start over again here in a few weeks. These 6 simple steps (that you can start doing RIGHT NOW) go a long way toward keeping your momentum up... PREPARE! When your schedule is extra busy, it’s more important than ever to PLAN AHEAD. If you fly by the seat of your pants for the next few weeks, they might not zip up so easily by the end of the year! Plan your meals … block in your workouts … and make time for some self-care! SKIP THE SUGAR & OTHER EMPTY CALORIES. This will get you off the blood sugar and junk food roller coaster. Your energy levels will stabilize and your digestive system will thank you, too. Yes, you should enjoy the “worth it” treats over the holidays, but pass on the ones you don’t even really want — but would eat “because they are there.” DON’T OVER-CAFFEINATE. A little caffeine will get you going, but too much will leave you feeling wired, anxious, and grouchy, plus it can give you headaches and stomachaches. GET ENOUGH SLEEP. Make room in your schedule for a solid 7-8 hours of sleep every night! This will keep your mood and energy up … and your appetite in check, since lack of sleep can do a real number on your hunger hormones. BE ACTIVE. Sitting around all day can be a real energy zapper . Get up and move throughout the day and schedule your workouts ahead of time. HYDRATE! You already know this, but make it a point to get 8-11 glasses of water a DAY.
